- Texture Fill In Affinity Designer | The Correct Workaround
I have a PNG image that I would like to fill with white. I don't want it to fill a white box around and behind the image, I just want the actual object itself to be filled with color.
Can this be done in Affinity Publisher? In order to fill something, it needs to have a boundary, PNG files are rasterised, so lots of small squares called pixels, PNG files can also have transparent pixels, pixels with no fill. If you want to fill a shape made from pixels you have to create a boundary using the pen tool or by making a selection of that shape. The png is an outline of a bird. I don't have other apps and that seems like alot of work to use the pen tool to make a selection of the shape.
I will just move on and not worry about it. Thank you very much for your reply!! Affinity Photo or Designer are the best tools for this but assuming you only have Publisher it can still be done, it's just a little more involved. If so, there are a couple of ways to do this, the easiest being to Duplicate the bird layer, then on the duplicate trace with the Pen tool all around the outside of the bird. Once you complete the outline you can just fill it with any colour you want.
Then just drag the original bird layer to the top of the stack to get the black lines and all the details back. The second way is to duplicate the layer, make a selection of the bird on the duplicated layer, fill with a colour and then drag the original bird layer to the top of the stack as before.
But as I said the first way is the easiest. Due to the fact that Boris Johnson is now our Prime Minister, punctuation, spelling and grammar will never be worried about ever again. We now have far bigger problems to be worried about. I made sure the JPEG had a transparent background because I thought once I pulled it in, the background would fill to match the black rectangle I had created as the bottom layer that everything stacks onto.
But I'm still left with a transparent checkerboard background on the image and when I try to fill, it fills everything on the jpeg.
I want the main image left as is, but the transparent background on the JPEG to be filled in black. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I don't think JPG supports a transparent background. Perhaps what you have is the actual checkerboard pattern as part of the file, somehow? Desktop: new: Windows 11 Home, version 21H2 Affinity Photo 1. Clueless Creator, it is probably not a JPG since this file format doesn't support transparency.
However, regardless of its file type it either includes transparency or a path which may be used as mask in Affinity. If the latter is the case you can try to edit the placed image inside APub and edit its mask layer and thereby its 'background' color. If it is a pixel image only but with transparency then there is no option in APub to replace the transparent pixels with a color. Note that APub has no pixel edit tools at all. To achieve a black background for this transparent image you could place it on top of a layer which contains a black object, e.
Also a Picture Frame with a black fill color will work, this object may contain the image, too, and cause easier handling this way. Thank you! I didn't quite figure it out in Publisher, but I was able to open up Paint 3D and I swear even though I previously tried it, this time I was able to black fill in the transparent background.
So then I just dragged that new saved image into the look book I'm creating in Publisher. You can post now and register later. If you have an account, sign in now to post with your account.
